Kubu Sidem

Kubu Sidem is a combined residence and indigo-dyeing studio in Payangan, Bali, conceived by textile designer Sebas Mesdag of Tian Taru. At the heart of the project is an antique Javanese joglo, carefully transported from Java and reassembled on site, preserving its original timber structure and architectural character. The complex comprises an open residence and a two-storey textile workshop. Minimal enclosure allows the living spaces to remain closely connected to the surrounding tropical landscape, while the workshop accommodates indigo dyeing, experimentation and design development. Reclaimed timber, traditional craftsmanship and an open spatial arrangement bring domestic life, creative work and nature together.
