Zhu’an - Bamboo Hut

Set among the farmland and mountains of Yunnan, Zhu’an — Bamboo Hut is a private residence created for an artist couple near Chengbei village. The house is organised around nine courtyards, drawing on the traditional spatial principles of the local Bai architecture. Natural materials, handcrafted furniture and collected objects give the interior a quiet, timeless character. Lime plaster mixed with straw, used throughout the walls, connects contemporary living with traditional building techniques, while the sequence of courtyards creates an intimate relationship between architecture, landscape and everyday life.
