Raised in Breda, Molenschot’s passion for making things was influenced by his upbringing, as both of his parents’ families owned factories. Growing up next to a factory ignited his love for creating. Molenschot went on to study man and public space at Design Academy Eindhoven. Through his artistic journey, Molenschot has discovered new materials and techniques, collaborating with different craftspeople and growing his business. He now lives and works in Zaandam, running Studio Molen since 2005. Molenschot is best known for his cast bronze lighting structures, particularly the body of work titled City Light, which includes works hand-shaped by the designer into detailed formations to channel and direct light. At his core, Molenschot remains a passionate artist and polaroid photographer, expressing himself most often through 3D works that translate his stories into objects. His ATLAS project chronicles Molenschot’s artistic journey from its beginning in 2000, acting as a diary of his projects, capturing moments in time and transforming them into culturally significant works of art. Molenschot has exhibited in significant international exhibitions and fairs, including Zona Maco, Design Days Dubai, PAD Paris, Art Monte-Carlo, Art Light in Paris, Design Miami, Art Genève, Masterpiece London, Guild Cape Town, BRAFA Brussels, Design Shanghai, Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris and Pavilion of Art & Design in Paris.
